Shatavari Root Adaptogenic Electuary

Have you ever heard of an herbal electuary? If not let me introduce you to one of the best way to ingest medicinal herbs! These compounds have been used for thousands to years as a sweet and tasty way to deliver herbal medicines and are super simple to make. All you do have to do in order to make an electuary is to mix together some finely ground herbs into a honeyed mixture and voila!

You typically take a herbal electuary like a supplement so usually you need to take them twice a day for several weeks to feel the effects.

Here is an easy adaptogenic electuary blend that you can make up at home. Please keep in mind that if you are pregnant or breastfeeding I recommend that you contact your doctor for approval before taking any herbal supplements.

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons shatavari root powder

2 tablespoon schisandra berry powder

1 tablespoon ashwagandha root powder

1 tablespoon eleuthero root powder

1 cup raw liquid honey (or a little less)

COMPOSITION

Combine all the powders in a bowl and mix well then mix in 1/2 cup of the honey. Very gradually mix in the remainder of the honey until you create a soft, thick paste. Pour the mix into an amber jar and top off with a tight fitting lid. Then leave the jar in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before using. This will allow more time for the herbal constituents to permeate the mixture and synergize. Keep refrigerated in between uses and use within 3 months.

IN PRACTICE

Can use 1/2 teaspoon twice daily for no more than 5-6 weeks then take 1-2 weeks off. You may continue to repeat this cycle until you start to feel more resilient. You can use it straight from the jar or even mix it into some of your beverages like your golden milk or herbal tea. The flavor profile is very earthy and slightly sweet.
